چکیده
General overview Australia is home to some of the most venomous creatures in the world. T has been undertaken on many of these venoms. The focus of our group is and biochemical examination of venoms from Australasian animals. We a in: examining whether the currently available antivenoms can be utilise other species (some closely related while others are not). We are also inte primary mode of action of these venoms and isolating and characte research will help in the identification of new, or improved, treatment stra of new highly potent research tools and the identification of lead compoun

Background: Immunotherapy is the only specific treatment for scorpion envenomation. In the present study, the protective effects of polyvalent antivenom against histopathological complications in kidneys and marker changes (BUN and creatinine) induced by Mesobuthus eupeus (Me) scorpion venom was investigated in anesthetized rabbits. Methods: Twenty four rabbits were randomized into four gro...
متن کاملStudy on anti inflammatory effect of scorpion (Mesobuthus eupeus) venom in adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints as well as other organs in the body. Adjuvant-induced arthritis models in inbred rats serve as relevant models for RA, having many clinical similarities to this disease. Using honey bee venom as a treatment for Rheumatoid arthritis is an ancient therapy in various parts of the world. However scorpion ve...
متن کاملThe Aromatic Head Group of Spider Toxin Polyamines Influences Toxicity to Cancer Cells
Spider venoms constitute incredibly diverse libraries of compounds, many of which are involved in prey capture and defence. Polyamines are often prevalent in the venom and target ionotropic glutamate receptors. Here we show that a novel spider polyamine, PA366, containing a hydroxyphenyl-based structure is present in the venom of several species of tarantula, and has selective toxicity against ...
